Die Mariazellerbahn

 

Die Mariazellerbahn ist eine Schmalspurbahn mit 760 mm Spurweite und verläuft von St. Pölten über das Pielachtal in den Wallfahrtsort Mariazell. Die Strecke ist 91 Kilometer lang. Der erste Streckenabschnitt von St. Pölten nach Kirchberg an der Pielach wurde 1898 eröffnet. 1905 ging der Abschnitt bis Laubenbachmühle in Betrieb und 1907 die Bergstrecke bis Mariazell.

Anfangs fuhren Dampflokomotiven der Reihe „Mh. 6“, ab 1911 bis 2013 verkehrten Elektroloks der Baureihe „1099“. Seit 2013 fahren die Züge der „Himmelstreppe“.

 

The Mariazellerbahn

 

The Mariazell Railway is a narrow gauge railway with 760 mm gauge and runs from St. Pölten via the Pielachtal to the pilgrimage town of Mariazell. The track is 91 kilometers long. The first section of St. Pölten to Kirchberg an der Pielach was opened in 1898. In 1905 the track was continued to  Laubenbachmühle and in 1907 the mountain route to Mariazell was finished.
First  they used steam engines of the series "Mh. 6 ", from 1911 to 2013 there went electric locomotives of the series" 1099 ". Since 2013 the new trains of the “Himmelstreppe” (“Stairway to Heaven") are daily on the track.
